Who We Are

The Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) is a proud organization committed to supporting veterans, strengthening our community, and promoting patriotism through dedicated service. As descendants of veterans who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces, our members honor that legacy by working side-by-side with The American Legion Family to uphold core American values and serve those who have sacrificed for our freedoms.

Who can Join

You must be one of the following:

  • The male descendant (including stepsons and adopted sons) of a current member of The American Legion.

  • The male descendant of a veteran who served from December 7, 1941 to today.

  • The male descendant of a veteran who died after his/her honorable discharge from any service from December 7, 1941 to today.

Youth Programs

S.A.L. supports the youth in your communities through activities, and sponsorship opportunities. Learn about our programs below.

Boys State

The American Legion Boys State is a highly respected educational program for US high school students.

Oratorical Contest

Since 1938, the contest has developed knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students.

Legionville

American Legions across Minnesota are proud to sponsor children to attend the Legionville Educational Center and Summer Camp.
